What is LINE? The biggest messaging app(platform) in Japan.
Reading this article, you might heard of LINE, the biggest messaging app in Japan.
Now LINE is not just a messaging platform but it is a super-app providing so many services including payment, insurance, gift, exchange and so many others.
The Beginning of LINE
LINE started their service on 23th June 2011.
It is 3 months after Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami struck on 11th March 2011 and the development of LINE is linked to the tragedy.
In the aftermath of that tragic event, people struggled to find reliable ways of contacting their loved ones using existing communications services. Three months later, the LINE Messaging app was launched, with the aim of becoming a dependable communication tool people could use for their everyday lives.
MAU ( monthly active users) of LINE
As of April 2022, LINE has 92 million MAU (monthly active users) which is 73% of Japanese population(123 million people, https://www.stat.go.jp/data/jinsui/pdf/202204.pdf).
According to world population review, average age of Japanese people is 48.6 and population pyramid is like an image below.

From this statistics, we can infer that almost all of young Japanese people use LINE because we should exclude numbers of little babies and old people who cannot use Smartphones or PCs.
